SAN FRANCISCO — President Donald Trump illegally invaded Venezuela, seized and bombarded the capital, confiscated the country’s oil resources, and arrested President Maduro and his wife. He declared that the United States would administer Venezuela indefinitely and alluded to a U.S. military occupation “related to oil.”
Senator Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) issued the following statement in response:
“Trump is a complete failure. His popularity has plummeted, the Epstein scandal has intensified, and the U.S. economy is suffering.” This irresponsible and illegal invasion of Venezuela—aimed at regime change—is designed to divert public attention and exploit Venezuela’s oil wealth for the benefit of Trump and his cronies. He is endangering American troops and taxpayers in yet another foreign adventure, solely for his own personal gain.
“Trump has no legal authority to invade Venezuela, as he has received no authorization from Congress. This illegal act constitutes further grounds for the impeachment of this autocratic president.”

Trump’s illegal invasion of Venezuela has nothing to do with drugs, aid to the Venezuelan people, or the restoration of democracy in Venezuela. Maduro is certainly a bad person, but that is not the reason for the invasion. It is solely about oil and Trump’s declining popularity in his own country. Trump must be impeached immediately.
